Q: I’ve bought packs before, why do I now need to buy a subscription to access them?
A: If you have purchased any packs in a previous version of the app you will never need a subscription to access them.
Apple keep a permanent record of the packs you own based on your Apple ID so you don’t need to pay for them again. On your device, whether it’s an iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch, once you have downloaded Jamie’s Recipes again you can ‘restore’ your previous packs from the Settings menu.
To do this make sure that your device is signed into your existing Apple ID, the one that you made the pack purchases with previously. Then open the app and tap on More, Settings, Restore Purchases. Your packs will appear in a couple of minutes depending on your WiFi or 3G connection.
Don’t forget that if you had the earlier app - Jamie’s 20 Minute Meals, you will need to have it downloaded on your device as well as Jamie’s Recipes in order to restore the 20 Minute Meal packs.
If these packs are missing, download Jamie’s 20 Minute Meals, open it and tap on a few recipes, then close it and open Jamie’s Recipes, then tap on More, Settings, Restore Purchases.
Q: I have a subscription, how do I get the new recipes pack each month?
A: You will instantly have access to all new recipe packs that are released, check back on the second Wednesday of each month to see the new pack.
Q: Will Jamie’s Recipes be updated with new recipes and videos?
A: For subscribers we have an exciting variety of delicious new packs to release each month - keep your eyes peeled on the second Wednesday of every month!
Q: Can I still use the app once my subscription expires?
A: Once your subscription has finished and if you do not renew, you will still have access to the free Taster Pack, and any recipe packs you purchased in an earlier version of the app.
Q: How can I cancel my subscription?
A: Your subscription will automatically renew unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24-hours before the end of the current subscription period, your account will be charged for renewal within 24-hours prior to the end of the current period. The cost of the renewal will match the initial subscription price. No cancellation of the current subscription is allowed during your active subscription period.
Please follow these steps to cancel your subscription:
- Tap App Store from your device's Home screen.
- Tap Featured at the bottom of the screen.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page.
- Tap the Apple ID button in the lower-left corner. (If you are not signed in, tap the Sign In button, and sign in with your Apple ID. Then, scroll back to the bottom of the page, and tap the Apple ID button.)
- Tap the View Apple ID button.
- Enter your password and tap OK.
- From the main account page, scroll down and tap Manage App Subscriptions. If you don't have app subscriptions this button will not be displayed.
- From your Manage App Subscription page, choose the app subscription.
- Tap the subscription category for which you want to disable auto-renewal.
- Tap On to toggle the switch to Off.
- You'll receive a confirmation message.
Q: It won’t let me buy a subscription, purchases are not allowed?
A: You might see the message ‘purchases not allowed’ if your device has a restriction placed on in-app purchases. To check the settings on your device, and switch it back on, you need to visit the device settings, and then navigate to General / Restrictions. At this point, if restrictions are switched on, you will be prompted to enter your four digit code before you can re-enable in-app purchases. You can do this either by tapping on 'Disable restrictions' or by navigating down the page and switching in-app purchases back to 'on'.
Q: I have downloaded Jamie’s Recipes and it does not sync onto my device?
A: Plugging your device into your computer and opening iTunes you should see your device appear on the left pane of iTunes under devices. Click on the name of your device and then in the main panel of iTunes you should see a picture of your device and a series of tabs above it. Click on the tab labelled 'Applications'. Make sure the 'Sync applications' checkbox is ticked as well as the specific checkbox for Jamie's Recipes, which you should see in the list of applications on the left-hand side of the main panel.
You will also need to make sure the software version of your device is at least 5.1. You can check this and upgrade by clicking on Check for Update on the summary tab of the same device menu in iTunes. Apple will prompt you and upgrade your software if necessary.
Another reason that the app will not sync could be that your iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch does not have enough spare capacity. Try removing some Apps or Video that you no longer use to free up more space on your device. You can see how much free-space you have at the bottom of the same device summary tab.
Q: How do I delete a recipe from the Shopping List?
A: To delete a recipe, from the shopping list, press the wastebasket button and then tap the red circle next to the recipe name to select it. Once selected, press 'delete selected' to remove the recipe from your shopping list. To simplify the shopping list, recipe items can only be deleted in their recipe groups. Items that you add yourself or that you add from the essentials section can be selected and removed individually.
Q: Where are all the images, they’re all blank?
A: The newest update introduced on-demand streaming for images. This means you do need to have a good WiFi or 3G connection to view them as they are no longer stored on your device. We made this change based on all our user feedback reporting that the app was too large and took up too much space on a device. We also hope to keep adding new recipes to the app, without streaming it will become far too large for people to be able to store.
Q: The videos won’t play.
A: We received a lot of customer feedback that the app was too big and used too much memory. We have updated the app and introduced video streaming to improve this. This means all your videos will stream to your device when you want them to, as long as you have an internet connection- either WiFi or 3G. If your videos will not play or are slow, check that you have a good WiFi/3G connection, then try to view the video again.
Q: There’s no sound on the videos.
The first thing to check is that the device is not on mute and that the volume is turned up. There are a few ways to turn sound on and off on the iPad especially!
If they are, try resetting your device’s factory settings as this is known to correct other problems with Apple's media player. This will mean loosing your personalised wallpaper or any other customisations you have made to the settings but will not clear out any of your data or apps. If you don't mind giving this a try then you can find the setting under Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings.
Do not confuse this with ‘Erase all Content and Settings’ which will delete everything from your device! If all else fails, try taking your device to an Apple store.
Q: I already have the original Jamie’s 20 Minute Meals app; can I access the recipes from the newer Jamie’s Recipes app?
A: Yes! If you previously had Jamie’s 20 Minute Meals, you can access these recipe packs in Jamie’s Recipes for free. To do this, install both apps on your device, open Jamie’s 20 Minute Meals first, tap on a few recipes. Then open Jamie’s Recipes and tap on More, Settings, Restore Purchases.
Q: I have bought recipe packs on my iPad but want them on my iPhone too, how can I get them on both?
A: To sync with a second device, install Jamie’s Recipes app on both, then on the second device, tap on More, Settings, Restore Purchases. The app will contact Apple to ask which packs you already own and will install those that you do. You will need a connection to the internet for this to work, ideally WiFi although it will work over your cellular/3G network if you enable this in your settings. Restore may take 5 or 10 minutes to complete. Usually it is a matter of seconds but it can take longer depending on your connection.
Please also take care to enter the correct Apple ID that was used to make the original purchases.
Q: I just upgraded to iOS 6 and I can’t access all my recipes.
A: Don’t worry, this is easy to fix! Just open your Jamie’s Recipes App and tap on More, Settings, Restore purchases and you will be able to access all the recipes packs you have previously purchased.
Q: A recipe has disappeared from the Taster Pack.
A: The taster pack gives you a whole range of recipes to have a go at. With each new pack, one recipe from the new pack is put into the taster pack and an older one taken out. This means there is always something new to try.
Any recipe packs that you have purchased in an earlier version of the app will have remained unchanged and will still be available. If you believe that any are now missing then you can tap on More, Settings, Restore Purchases, and the app will re-load all your packs.
Q: Help, my app keeps crashing when I try to open it!
A: Uninstall the app, turn your device off for a minute, turn it back on reinstall the app again, then restart your device. Make sure once you have reinstalled the app, that you tap on More, Settings, Restore Purchases so you don’t lose any recipe packs.
Q: Every time I try to open the app it gets stuck loading.
A: If your app gets stuck loading, uninstall it, restart your device, and then reinstall the app again. Don’t worry about your recipe packs. Once installed, open the app, tap on More, Settings, Restore Purchases and all the recipes will all appear in a couple of minutes. Unfortunately, reinstalling does mean if you have any recipes marked as favourites this information will be lost and you will need to remark them.
Q: Can I use the app when I switch to Android?
A: No. Unfortunately, Jamie’s Recipes is not available for Android devices.
